Here's the promo image for the mooted new Worzel Gummidge animated series. For the last four years, Pidgeon Entertainment in LA have been shopping the format in various mediums – a television series, a film, and now a cartoon. Whether this version makes it off the blocks remains to be seen, but the early signs aren't great. Here's the promo blurb:
An animated 26 x 30
minute series starring the mischievous scarecrow in a modern urban
setting. Targeted at Kids 5-12 for delivery in 2014, the series will
also feature neighbours Juan (neurotic Woody Allen-type) and Suzi (punky
Debbie Harry-type) who “make a scarecrow out of sackcloth, old clothes
and various pieces of junk – but on the magical night of the Harvest
Moon, their scarecrow comes alive.
There probably is a place for a new version of Worzel Gummidge, but it seems a pity to revisit the character when so little of the original format survives. Were it not for the name, one wonders if anyone would have actually guessed that this was a remake. As the slogan on the poster says, what could possibly go wrong?
